TRANSFORMING THE COMMUNITY through VILLAGES
About Us
Chepngoror Village Trust is a local NGO with a noble vision to bring about transformative change in the most marginalized and backward neighbourhoods within Chepngoror division in Kenya. The core objective of the organization is to establish the small neighbourhoods making the larger Chepngoror division as exemplary models of sustainable development, achieved through strategic, systematic, and participatory interventions. We collaborate with like-minded organizations and groups of individuals to ensure the success of its initiatives.
Through active participation and ownership, the villagers become instrumental in driving positive change and fostering a sustainable future for their village.
OUR CORE VALUES
We stand for the following values in our activities:
Empowering
Empowerment is a process that challenges our assumptions about the way things are and can be. Through continuous involvement, we enable villages to take responsibility and accountability for the outcomes of their actions.
Transformative
Behavioral transformation of the villages is our ultimate goal. Our all intervention strategies and participation mechanism are architected to turn this dream to reality.
Diverse
We believe in the exploration of differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It champions the idea that diversity drives social, economic, and cultural dynamism and innovation.
Inclusive
We embrace all villagers, irrespective of religion, race, gender, disability or another attribute which can be perceived as different. We believe that inclusion is a human right
What We Do
Our Programs
We hold a firm belief that empowering women and improving their political, social, economic and health status is highly important for transformation of the villages.
Our programs in this sector aim at promotion of organic farming, capacity building of farmers, supporting irrigation system, access to existing government schemes, creation of green spaces etc
Democratic Governance and Human Rights
The objective of this program seeks to equip Chepngoror area residents with the necessary knowledge, information and skills to enable them to demand for compliance to the principles of democratic governance and respect to human rights
WASH in Health and Nutrition
The full benefits of good health and nutrition are dependent on access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. Our philosophy is that when clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene are not a normal part of daily life, the impacts on health and well-being are devastating. The effects go beyond the illnesses themselves. It is estimated that half of undernutrition is associated with inadequate water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), because diarrhoeal diseases and parasites prevent people from absorbing nutrients from food. Undernutrition in the first two years of life causes stunting, which permanently damages children’s long-term physical and mental development
Health initiatives are focused on the real issues and root causes of health-related problems in the intervention area. We work closely with existing institutions through a community centric and participatory approach to ensure better and improved health for rural community.
We believe that education is universal human right and every individual including children is entitled to quality education. We act to ensure inclusion, dignity and equality of opportunity of all children
Disability Rights
Under this program, we protect and advocate for rights of people with disabilities so that they may live the lives they choose, free from abuse, neglect, discrimination, and segregation
Drinking Water Security
We aim for long-lasting solutions to make clean water accessible for everyone, everywhere. In Kenya, 30 million people face a daily struggle to access clean water close at home. Indeed a majority of the people living in arid and semi arid regions have no choice but to drink dirty water. They also lack enough for washing, cooking, cleaning and production of food. As a result, they get sick, and their education and livelihoods suffer
